Define Unit of Measure Codes

Explanation

Use this activity to add or remove unit of measure codes from the system, edit a description, or view the list of available unit of measure codes. User-defined units of measure can be added in the Units of Measure window. This mandatory task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.

Nearly 300 of the most common units, from the international list of ISO code lists 31, 1000, and 2955, are  installed with the system. Only the description can be modified and the code added or removed from the system. If the description is not translated to the current language, it will first be displayed in English, then change to the first-saved language, enclosed in two symbols (<>). All changes made to the description are saved in the language in which you are working.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• All selected unit of measure codes will be available system-wide in the List of Values, e.g., company setup, customer record, and supplier record.
• When a unit of measure defined as discrete is used in an inventory part, the quantity calculation rounding for that part should always be set to zero.

Procedure

To perform this activity, follow these steps:

1. Open the ISO Code Usage window and click the Unit of Measure tab.
2. Query for the units you want to modify or view.
3. To add a unit of measure code to the system, select the Used in Application check box in the row containing the code you want to add. To remove it from the system, clear the check box.
4. To edit the description, use the Description field.
5. Save the changes.
