Generation Order

Organization Administration

Usage

This dialog box is opened from the Supervisor - Access Setup window by right clicking an access record on the Access Definition tab and clicking Generation Order.

Use this dialog box to set the order in which access rights are generated for each position. This generation is most important in cases where a single supervising position has access to a subordinate position from several overlapping access records (active during the same validity period). To illustrate with an example:

BDR:
A CEO position is at the top of the position structure, every other position is connected to it. HR Director position is located below among other directors.

Following access records are defined:
A CEO position has access to CEO with the MAX_ACCESS access role. Checkbox to include subordinate positions is selected.
A CEO position has access to HR_DIRECTOR with LIMITED_ACCESS access role. Checkbox to include subordinate positions is selected.

Results:
When access is generated, CEO will at first receive MAX_ACCESS to all positions (including the HR Director). However, when the next record is generated, LIMITED_ACCESS will overwrite MAX_ACCESS for the HR Director and all of his subordinates.
As a result, CEO will have MAX_ACCESS to everyone in the position structure except for the HR Director and his subordinates to whom he will have LIMITED_ACCESS.

Conclusion:
Be careful when overwriting access. If you do want to access someone with 2 access roles, you will have to add this role manually on the Supervisor - Access Setup windo.
