Calculate DOP Costs

Explanation

This activity is used to calculate costs related to a DOP structure. There are three different types of costs; Standard, Estimated, and Actual.

DOP costs can be calculated for a site, or for a specific DOP structure. In addition, it is possible to execute the batch process regularly by scheduling the calculation.

The results of DOP cost calculation can be seen in DOP Order or DOP Header. Moreover, the value of each cost set can be compared.

Note: If you want to monitor cost performance, you get the most correct graph if the actual cost is calculated every work day for the DOP structure. When a DOP order is in the Planned or Released status, part cost buckets added on the cost template in cost set one could be updated by right-clicking and then clicking Calculate Cost for this DOP ID in the graphical object structure of the Costing tab in the DOP Header window.

Inventory valuation methods of a configurable part allow for two possibilities: Cost per Part, where the same cost is used for all configurations of a configurable part, and Cost per Configuration, where a specific cost is used for each configuration. If creating the structure for a configurable part, you must first calculate the structure and then save the standard cost before you can report or receive a shop order. This is particularly important the first time a configuration ID is used and if you have selected the configuration cost method, Cost Per Configuration, in Inventory Part. Follow the steps given below.

Prerequisites

The structure and standard cost must be calculated and saved, and copied to cost set one for the parts included in the DOP structure.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, the selected cost types are calculated for the requested scope.

Procedure

You can generate costs for a site/structure either by direct execution (Procedure A) or by scheduling the task to execute as a background job (Procedure B).

Procedure A:

To generate costs for a DOP structure:

  1. Select the DOP structure in the DOP ID field. Use the List of Values to select from the available DOP structures.
  2. In the DOP Cost Type area, select the type of costs you want to calculate.
  3. Click OK.

To save the standard cost of a configurable part the first time a configuration ID is used for parts defined with the Cost Per Configuration configuration cost method:

  1. Open the DOP Header window and then click the Detail tab.
  2. Right-click and then click Save Standard Cost
  3. At the prompt, click Yes.
  4. Continue processing the DOP structure.

To generate costs for a site:

  1. Select the site in the Site field. Use the List of Values to select from the available sites.
  2. In the DOP Cost Type area, select the type of costs you want calculated.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Alternatively, you can generate alarms for all the sites by selecting the All sites check box.

Procedure B:

Click Schedule to open the New Database Task Schedule window. Set the scheduling parameters as desired and save. Scheduled tasks can be seen in Scheduled Database Tasks window.
