You can reserve parts automatically in four ways: line-by-line, order-by-order, shipment-by-shipment, or via a batch job . When reserving automatically the system will try to reserve the ordered quantity from the inventory location with the earliest expiration date or the earliest receipt date. The order-by order reservation is performed in the Reserve Customer Orders window. The line-by-line reservation is performed in the Reserve Customer Order Lines window. The batch job is performed in the Create Customer Order Reservations window. The shipment-by-shipment reservation is performed in the different shipment windows.
Use this activity to handle order lines that were not reserved automatically. When running the automatic reservation function, the system will try to reserve the ordered quantity from an inventory location. If there are not enough parts available at stock the customer order will be stopped in the order flow and it will appear in Handle Customer Order Shortages.
You can re-plan and solve the shortage problem on your order/order lines and shipment/shipment lines either by advancing the delivery date or reducing the quantity on the order line. The reduced quantity must be greater than zero (0). To handle a shortage of 100% the order/order line must be cancelled.
The shortage on the customer order line/shipment line is resolved and the order/shipment is ready to continue in the order flow/shipment flow defined for the order type/shipment type.
