NATO Stock Number—Key Exercise

Basic Data Setup

NATO Supply Classification Code

Purpose: If the Basic Data and Requirement exercise has not been done, you have to register your own supply classification codes here, as you will need them for the exercises below.

• If not already done, register your private NATO supply classification code as described in the Supply Classification Code exercise.  

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to define your own NATO stock number, and understand the use of it.

Prerequisite: The course for Fleet Configuration must be completed since we are using part numbers created in one of the lessons. 

Define NATO Stock Number

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to create a NATO stock number for the engine. 

Windows:
NATO Stock Numbers

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

1. Open the NATO Stock Numbers window.
2. Create a new record and enter the supply code n000.
3. Enter the NATO item identification number (NIIN). This value is nine digits in length. 
4. Enter the stock number description.
5. Save the information (F12). The NATO stock number is created automatically by the system with the supply code and NIIN.

Connect NATO Stock Number to Part Number

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to connect a part number to the above created NATO stock number. 

Windows:

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

1. Open the NATO Stock Number window.
2. Query(F3) for your NATO stock number (n000%).
3. Create a new record on the Parts tab.
4. Enter the part number nX72ENG7010
5. Save the information (F12).
6. If this is the preferred part for the NATO stock number, select the row, right-click and click Set Preferred Part.   
   Note that a new value appears in the Modified field. 

History Tracking for NSN

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to modify the stock number to create history logs. This is done by modifying the supply code or the NIIN.

Windows:

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

1. Open the NATO Stock Numbers window.
2. Query(F3) for your NATO stock number.
3. Update the NIIN.
4. Save the record (F12).
5. Select the row, right-click and click NATO Stock Number Details. 
6. Click the History tab and verify whether a history record has been created.
7. In the NATO Stock Number History window, you can view the history of many stock numbers at the same time. 

Mismatch between Part Number and Stock Number

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to understand why records appear in the Part and Stock Numbers Mismatch window.

Part and Stock Numbers Mismatch

Steps: To complete this exercise, perform the following steps.

1. Open the Part and Stock Numbers Mismatch window.
2. Populate (F2) the window.
3. Look at the sales part number and the part number. The reason for the mismatch can be because only one of them is connected to a stock number, or they are connected to different stock numbers.
